Law and Disorder

In September Ukraine passed new legislation that invalidated our visas and changed the laws about how foreigners can stay in Ukraine. Russia did something similar a few years ago, and this caused many missionaries to leave the country because they could no longer obtain the permissions they needed to stay there long term. We’re hoping that this won’t be the result here, but we have yet to see how the government will implement their new laws.

One thing is sure…the process will certainly be more expensive than it was. The documents and fees have already cost us almost a thousand dollars a piece, and we don’t yet know if we need to pay this annually. It also may necessitate more frequent trips out of the country.

Currently, all of our documents have been submitted, and we are waiting for permission to stay in the country. If we don’t receive this, we’ll have to leave, possibly for up to 3 months.
